Schooling Versus Education

I have a saying that I usually tell my participants in my training and teaching classes 'Don't allow your schooling interfere with your education.' I later found out that Mark Twain had used the exact same words years before me! Isn't that what it means when they say the deep calls unto the deep?
In one of my classes, one participant asked me 'what is the difference between schooling and education?'
Do you know the difference? A schooling system that has created a dependence thinking in you, that does not inspire in you a creative mindset to initiate things must really be low on education! A schooling system that makes a professional out of you with a myriad of certificates to show but does not teach you how to build a system that runs with professionals must be low on education! Many people have been taught the technical know-how of their professions but know nothing about the application of such to nation-building! Worse still, they do not know how to build a sustainable system of business from it!
We will talk more on this topic subsequently.
At our Independence Day's Financial Independence Seminar to be held in Jos, we shall be teaching you sustainable systems of achieving financial freedom not taught in school!
You cannot afford to be somewhere else that day!

Are You Unprofitable?

The story of the unprofitable servant in Matt 25:24-30 has always been used to illustrate the need to be profitable with our talent and endowments to serve the Lord and His kingdom. However, it is instructive to note that the literal example that Jesus used to illustrate this had to do with profitable investment of money! As a matter of fact, the unprofitable servant was called wicked because he didn't do the minimum expected of investing the money in the bank! The other profitable servants were commended because they traded (did business) with the money and multiplied it!!
If all you do is collect your salary and you have not learned the act of business to multiply your money nor have you learned the act of investing for similar reasons, it may be because you are inherently selfish and it is a mark of wickedness according to Jesus' parable!!! It will serve you well to educate yourself in business and investing and start taking the right actions.
To your success.

Dare to Dream Again!

Today is 4th of July! The Fourth of July, or Independence Day, is a federal holiday in US that celebrates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. USA has since become arguably the greatest nation on earth. The story of the success of America is not hinged on any particular natural resources like Oil in Nigeria or Diamond in Sierra Leone. Rather, it is hinged on ordinary men and women who had dreams and were willing to do all it takes to nurture and build their dreams to reality.
The question is, do you have a dream or dreams? Are you willing to do all that is legitimately required of you to nurture and build your dream into reality? Or have you abandoned your dream(s) because things were just not going the way you wanted it? Do you need help to dream again? Maybe you need help to nurture and build your dream to reality?
Join me at the Jos Mega Rally today Thursday 4th July to Sunday 7th July as we show you simple but proven ways of dreaming and nurturing your dreams to reality. Venue is Tee-El-Tee Bookshop, Opposite NTA, Yakubu Gowon way, Jos. Time is 10am and 2pm.

If you are not in the City of Jos and you want to dream again, nurture and build your dream, you can contact me here and I will get back to you.
To your success,
Dr Okonoda.

Living A Life Of Purpose.

What is purpose?

Purpose is the very reason you exist. Purpose can be said to be the utmost goal of our life, which directs our life. Purpose can be said to be the reason why we are here on earth.
      As a great Indian philosopher wrote ;
"When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bonds, your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction and you find yourself in a new, great and wonderful world. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be."

How Do Find Your Purpose?
Millions of people have asked the question. Why am I here?
Is purpose God given or not? There are a lot of people today who are confused and worried about how to find their purpose in life. A number of people who are religious are seeking to hear from God about what their purpose is. The issue is that hearing God in another ball game entirely. Are they able to hear God? Someone has funnily said ‘if you talk to God, it is called prayer, if God speaks to you, it is called schizophrenia! I wonder how many people actually hear God in clear consciousness without being labelled mentally ill!  Some other line of argument goes that purpose is not actually God-given because God is not rigid. Purpose, they claim is the result of the sum total of our lifetime experiences. Some believe that we can actually choose our own purpose just as they believe that your destiny is in your hands. They argue that God has placed us here and whatever purpose we make of it is up to us. What do you believe?

Why many don't discover purpose.

It has been said that only about 5% of people actually discover their purpose. Many are contented with just following the crowd and/or traditional roles laid down for them. They are like the biblical Methusella who lived for 969 years and yet all that was said of him was that he has sons and daughters and he died! In fact, like Adeolu Akinyemi use to say 'they go to school, study a good course, get a good job, live ever after and die. Such people will not leave any imprint on the sand of time. They may not affect anybody, not to talk of their generation positively. If they don't do that, can we be talking of affecting the generations unborn?

My pastor Osime Samuel wrote this on his facebook page a while ago; 'You were not designed for everyone to like you. Stop living your life for compliments. Live for accomplishment'. That comment immediately made me remember what I read from Rick Warren, author of the best selling book 'Purpose Driven Life' recently. According to him, the two commonest things that don't make people discover their purpose are 'Envy' and 'People-pleasing'
Hear him:
"Envy is 'I must be like you to be happy,' I've got to look like you, I've got to have your money, I've got to have your kids, your family, your husband.' That’s envy," he says. "People-pleasing is 'I must be liked by you to be happy. And unless you like me, then I can’t be happy.' So if I have to be like you or I have to be liked by you, those two things will cause you to miss God’s purpose for your life."

So which of these is preventing you to  from discovering your purpose? Break yourself free from all these and move on to discover your purpose and fulfill them. Remember 'you were not designed for everyone to like you. Stop living your life for compliments and live for accomplishments.

To your success.
