Kingsley
Okonoda is a medical practitioner and lecturer in the Department of Psychiatry of the University of Jos. He had is specialist training at Jos
University Teaching Hospital, Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria. He graduated with
the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree (M.B.Ch.B) from the
College of Health Sciences, Obafemi
Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State in November, 2002.
His
choice of Medicine was made at a relatively young age, and he has followed that
dream through with little or no thought for possible alternatives all through
the years.
However,
over the course of his study, he soon discovered that is a people oriented
person, with a lot of flare and passion to see people improve both in learning
and character and help them to achieve the best they can. This saw him showing
a lot of interest in the Behavioural Sciences in Pre-Clinical school and
eventually informed his choice of Psychiatry. This is largely due to the fact
that Psychology is an integral part of the course content, and the opportunity
the Psychiatric history affords one to get to know the individual totally in
terms of areas of strength, weaknesses, character, potentials etc (areas we
also explore in Psychological management).
Along
the way, he has been involved in giving seminars and workshops in topics
relating to Health and Stress Management. He was the President of the Health
and Drug-free Club; a Community development group of NYSC during the mandatory
one-year service to the nation under the National Youth Service Corp Scheme. He
coordinated other doctors and pharmacists in giving seminars, lectures and
workshops on Health related issues, drug abuse, youth empowerment etc. In
recognition of all these, he received a Commendation Certificate from the Cross
River State Coordinator of the scheme.
He
has also spoken in Churches and different groups at different times, and have
been involved in Workshops, Seminars and Trainings for some Management
Consulting firms, including the Training school of Power Holding Corporation of
Nigeria (PNCN).
Kingsley
enjoys reading and writing. He keeps a blog, MindWealth with Dr Okonoda where he writes on the mysteries of the mind; both positive and disorders.
He is married to Olubunmi Okonoda, an academic staff of the National Institute, Kuru,Plateau State.
